Persiapan Menuju Sinode Diosesan KAMS tahun 2027

MAKASSAR — Setelah vakum selama kurang lebih 14 tahun sejak pelaksanaan Sinode Diosesan KAMS pada 2012, Keuskupan Agung Makassar (KAMS) secara resmi meluncurkan Steering Committee Sinode KAMS pada Minggu, 16 Agustus 2026, di Rajawali, Makassar.
Peluncuran tersebut dilaksanakan setelah momentum Perayaan Ekaristi Hari Raya Santa Perawan Maria Diangkat ke Surga. Suasana perayaan yang berlangsung khidmat menjadi landasan rohani bagi dimulainya kembali perjalanan sinodal KAMS—sebuah proses untuk berjalan, mendengarkan, mempertimbangkan, dan mengambil bagian bersama dalam kehidupan serta misi Gereja.
Peluncuran Steering Committee menjadi langkah awal yang penting dalam membangun proses sinodal yang partisipatif, terbuka, dan berlandaskan semangat kebersamaan. Surat Keputusan kepanitiaan disusun berdasarkan proses pemilihan dan kesepakatan bersama. Para anggota yang dipercayakan diharapkan mampu menjalankan tugas secara kolektif, bertanggung jawab, dan penuh semangat pelayanan.
Proses Sinode KAMS berada di bawah kepemimpinan Uskup Agung Makassar, Mgr. Fransiskus Nipa. Steering Committee turut melibatkan sejumlah imam dari Sulawesi Selatan serta Vikaris Jenderal KAMS, Pastor Derikson Alverius Turnip, CICM. Kehadiran para imam dan berbagai unsur Gereja mencerminkan semangat sinodalitas yang menempatkan kebersamaan, dialog, dan partisipasi sebagai bagian penting dalam perjalanan Gereja.
Rangkaian kegiatan secara resmi dibuka oleh Wali Kota Makassar, Munafri Arifuddin. Kehadiran Wali Kota Makassar memperlihatkan semangat kebersamaan dan hubungan harmonis antara Gereja Katolik dan pemerintah dalam membangun kehidupan masyarakat yang rukun, inklusif, serta menjunjung tinggi nilai persaudaraan.
Pembentukan Steering Committee memiliki landasan yuridis dalam tata kehidupan Gereja. Kitab Hukum Kanonik, khususnya Kanon 460–468, menjelaskan sinode diosesan sebagai pertemuan para imam dan umat beriman terpilih untuk membantu Uskup Diosesan dalam menjalankan tugas penggembalaan bagi seluruh komunitas keuskupan.
Dalam proses tersebut, peserta sinode menyampaikan pandangan dan pertimbangan secara konsultatif kepada Uskup. Para imam, kaum religius, dan umat awam terpilih diharapkan berpartisipasi aktif dalam merumuskan berbagai rekomendasi yang berguna bagi arah pelayanan dan pengembangan kehidupan Gereja pada masa mendatang.
Setelah 14 tahun tanpa penyelenggaraan sinode, peluncuran Steering Committee ini menjadi momentum pembaruan bagi KAMS. Sinode diharapkan menjadi ruang untuk mendengarkan aspirasi umat, membaca berbagai tantangan zaman, mengevaluasi perjalanan pelayanan, serta menyusun arah pastoral yang relevan dengan kebutuhan Gereja dan masyarakat.
Peluncuran ini bukan sekadar kegiatan seremonial, melainkan awal dari sebuah perjalanan rohani dan pastoral yang membutuhkan doa, keterlibatan, serta tanggung jawab bersama. Semangat Hari Raya Santa Perawan Maria Diangkat ke Surga diharapkan menginspirasi seluruh umat untuk melangkah dengan iman dan pengharapan.
Dengan semangat sinodalitas, seluruh umat KAMS diajak berjalan bersama untuk membangun Gereja yang semakin terbuka, partisipatif, misioner, dan penuh belas kasih.

Preparation for the 2027 KAMS Diocesan Synod

MAKASSAR — After a hiatus of approximately 14 years since the 2012 KAMS Diocesan Synod, the Archdiocese of Makassar, widely known as KAMS, officially launched its Synod Steering Committee on Sunday, August 16, 2026, in Rajawali, Makassar.
The launch took place following the Eucharistic celebration of the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The reverent celebration provided a meaningful spiritual foundation for the renewal of the KAMS synodal journey—a process of walking, listening, discerning, and participating together in the life and mission of the Church.
The launch represents an important first step in developing a participatory, open, and collaborative synodal process. The official decree establishing the committee was prepared through a process of collective selection and mutual agreement. Its appointed members are therefore expected to carry out their responsibilities collectively, transparently, and in a spirit of service.
The KAMS Synod process is under the leadership of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Makassar, Most Rev. Fransiskus Nipa. The Steering Committee also involves several priests from South Sulawesi and the Vicar General of KAMS, Father Derikson Alverius Turnip, CICM. Their involvement, together with other members of the Church, reflects the spirit of synodality, which places communion, dialogue, and participation at the heart of the Church’s journey.
The event was officially opened by the Mayor of Makassar, Munafri Arifuddin. His presence reflected the harmonious relationship between the Catholic Church and the municipal government in promoting an inclusive society founded on mutual respect, unity, and fraternity.
The formation of the Steering Committee is grounded in the juridical principles governing the life of the Church. The Code of Canon Law, particularly Canons 460–468, defines a diocesan synod as an assembly of selected priests and members of the Christian faithful who assist the diocesan bishop in serving the entire diocesan community.
Within this process, synod participants provide consultative opinions and recommendations to the bishop. Priests, members of religious communities, and selected laypeople are expected to contribute actively to the formulation of recommendations that will guide the Church’s pastoral ministry and development in the years ahead.
Following a 14-year absence, the launch of the Steering Committee has become a significant moment of renewal for KAMS. The synod is expected to provide a space for listening to the faithful, responding to contemporary challenges, evaluating the Church’s pastoral journey, and formulating directions relevant to the needs of both the Church and society.
The launch was more than a ceremonial event. It marked the beginning of a spiritual and pastoral journey requiring prayer, participation, and shared responsibility. The spirit of the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is expected to inspire the faithful to move forward in faith and hope.
Guided by the spirit of synodality, the entire KAMS community is invited to walk together toward a Church that is increasingly open, participatory, missionary, and compassionate.
