The MPY and Bapak PY-89

The MPY and Bapak PY-89
At Chew Jetty, George Town – Penang, the MPY SSEAYP 1989 crew finally gathered in full formation on the iconic wooden pier. With the blue sea as their witness and Penang’s skyline in the distance, they lined up neatly like an official big-family portrait. Not because anyone told them to—but because of pure alumni instinct: stand shoulder to shoulder, link arms, and make sure everyone fits in the frame. This wasn’t a spontaneous pose—it was a friendship formation trained since 1989.
The reason they stood like this was simple yet meaningful: so that no one is missed and no one is left behind, exactly like the old SSEAYP philosophy. Someone naturally guarded the left side, someone took charge of the center, and someone made sure the right side was secure. No long instructions needed—because MPY coordination is like riding a bicycle: you may not do it every day, but once you start, it just works.
Among them stood a figure who always makes everything feel complete: Cik Mansyoor. He has long been crowned the Father of PY-89, not through voting, but through consistency. He is the only National Leader who has always shown up at every IPY-89 activity, no matter which country hosted it. Southeast Asia or far beyond—if it’s IPY-89, chances are Cik Mansyoor is there. His presence brings calm, reassurance, and his signature comments that somehow always make everyone laugh.
So this photo is more than just a group shot at Chew Jetty. It’s a portrait of a long journey: MPYs who remain united, friendships that refuse to fade, and a PY Father who faithfully accompanies his “children” wherever reunions take place. The sea may change, the city may grow, and age may advance—but IPY-89 remains one family, and Cik Mansyoor is still right there, standing proudly among them.
