The Chairman

Katanya sih acaranya santai, tapi detailnya lengkap.

The Chairman

That night in Penang, the atmosphere of the SSEAYP 1989 Reunion instantly leveled up the moment our Reunion Chairman stepped onto the stage. Back in 1989, he was already famous as the most handsome participant—and good news, that title is still very much valid today. The only difference? Back then people admired his looks; now they admire his leadership charisma, with a long-lasting handsome bonus. Once he held the microphone, everyone paid attention… partly to the speech, partly to quietly confirm, “Yes, he’s still handsome.”

As chairman, he didn’t just look cool—he was the mastermind behind the event. Together with the entire Malaysian Participating Youth (MPY-89) team, he carefully designed the program, making everyone forget their age—from the welcoming dinner to the night cultural show. He called it a relaxed event, but the details were impressively precise. Even the performance order for each country was planned thoughtfully—so no one’s feelings were hurt, except maybe a few knees from standing too long.

In his welcoming speech, the chairman spoke with his signature style: warm, nostalgic, and sprinkled with humor that made the audience laugh while nodding in agreement. He reminded everyone that they first met as young ASEAN youths, and now reunited as “youths with extra wisdom.” The applause was loud—though some clapped while thinking, “Wise, yes… but tomorrow we might need pain relief patches.”

The evening ended with colorful cultural performances from each country, filled with laughter, pride, and shared memories. The chairman stood there smiling, satisfied as everything ran smoothly. From the most handsome participant in 1989 to the coolest leader in Penang today, his charm remains the same: bringing people, countries, and memories together—with elegance, confidence, and just a little bit of envy from everyone else.
