“Sudden Closing Hours and the Management of Leaving on Time”

Mr. Bowo’s photocopy MSME is known for being fast, affordable, and full of time-related surprises. A formal sign on the wall reads: “Open 08:00–17:00.” Regular customers, however, understand that the actual closing time depends on the queue and the owner’s mental condition. According to Mr. Bowo, work efficiency must be balanced with efficient departure—an informal time management concept.

The issue arises when the clock shows 4:55 p.m. and three customers remain in line. Mr. Bowo looks at the clock, then at the customers, and diplomatically says, “For the last five minutes, please photocopy with intention.” The line laughs, and the process speeds up. In MSMEs, humor often functions as a rhythm regulator.

A customer arrives at exactly 5:01 p.m. to find the machine already turned off. He raises a mild protest, and Mr. Bowo casually replies, “Machines also have biological clocks.” Instead of anger, the customer smiles and promises to come earlier the next day. Socially, this is conflict-free negotiation based on shared empathy.

As he prepares to leave, Mr. Bowo posts a small note on the door: “Close on time, open with enthusiasm.” The sentence is simple yet firm. In MSMEs, discipline does not mean rigidity, and flexibility does not mean chaos. Humor helps close the workday lightly—without reducing mutual respect between seller and customer.
