Perjalanan menuju Kawah Putih terasa seperti sebuah misi kecil. Dari titik masuk menuju lokasi kawah masih sekitar 5 kilometer. Bagi yang membawa mobil, tarif masuk kendaraan sekitar Rp179.000 per mobil, sementara penumpang dikenakan sekitar Rp35.000 per orang. Kalau tidak ingin membawa kendaraan sampai atas, tersedia angkutan wisata dengan biaya sekitar Rp60.000 per orang.

Memang terasa lumayan menguras kantong. Tetapi setelah sampai di lokasi, perlahan kita mulai berkata:

“Oh… ternyata worth it!”

Bedanya, negeri dongeng biasanya wangi bunga.

TRAVEL NOTES: KAWAH PUTIH — A LONG JOURNEY TO SEE THE “FOG” THAT SMELLS LIKE SULFUR

There are tourist destinations where you simply arrive, get out of the car, take a few pictures, and go home. Kawah Putih is definitely not one of them. Getting there requires energy, time, and, of course, a reasonably prepared wallet.

The journey to Kawah Putih feels like a small adventure. From the entrance area to the crater itself, there is still approximately 5 kilometers to travel. For visitors bringing their own car, the vehicle entrance fee is around IDR 179,000 per car, while passengers pay approximately IDR 35,000 per person. For those who prefer not to drive to the upper area, tourist transportation is available for around IDR 60,000 per person.

Yes, it can feel a little expensive. But once you arrive, you slowly start saying:

“Oh… this is actually worth it!”

Before your eyes stretches a beautiful crater filled with pale turquoise-white water, surrounded by rocky cliffs. Volcanic steam slowly rises above the crater, creating an atmosphere that looks like a mysterious misty kingdom from a fairy tale.

The difference?

Fairy-tale kingdoms usually smell like flowers.

At Kawah Putih, the strong smell of sulfur immediately reminds you that this is a real volcanic crater.

The thick mist and steam make the scenery even more dramatic. You can stand there admiring the landscape while trying to maintain an elegant expression—even though your nose may occasionally complain.

There is also a popular belief among some visitors that the crater’s water or mud can be used to treat skin problems. However, this should not be considered medical treatment, because volcanic crater water can contain irritating substances and direct exposure may actually cause skin irritation.

So, if you are thinking about using the mud as a beauty treatment, don’t simply scoop up crater mud and assume it is medicine. It is much safer to enjoy the scenery instead.

In the end, Kawah Putih certainly requires a fair amount of effort to visit. But after seeing the crater, mist, cliffs, and volcanic landscape with your own eyes, the journey feels worthwhile.

The conclusion is simple:

Kawah Putih teaches us that beautiful scenery is sometimes worth working for. And if you smell sulfur after reaching the top, that does not mean your trip has gone wrong—it means you have truly arrived!
